As we all know, there are a number of spacecrafts in our atmosphere from different countries. It is every country’s pride to successfully launch their own satellite and send it to the atmosphere. However they have a responsibility of staying into contact with their respectable satellite to ensure that all is as it should be.
According to a report released recently, Chinese spacecraft has shown some possibility of reentering the Earth’s atmosphere. The size of the spacecraft in question is that of a small house. It has not been determined when this is going to happen and where it is going to land. However, pieces of the satellite might survive the fiery fall and manage to reach the ground. If the spacecraft reenters over a densely populated area, the reentry may be witnessed on Earth.
What is for sure is that there is a lot that is expected to take place in a matter of days to come. The irony is that, the forecasters know exactly what the weather will be like for almost one month but the operators of this spacecraft which is totally human-controlled and man-made, only have a slight idea when it is expected to fall or reenter the Earth atmosphere.
The space lab in question is known as Tiangong-1. Its operators lost contact with it in 2016. Since then, they have not been able to have contact with it although they are not ready to admit it. In the beginning, China’s space agency claimed they were being disabled. Then amateur sky-watchers noticed that the agency had actually lost control of the spacecraft. However, China admitted much later and said they expected the spacecraft to make an unrestrained reentry in late 2017.
Although this might be scary because it is not known how the spacecraft will land, NASA’s spokesperson J.D. Harrington said before they launch and release any spacecraft to the space, they ensure they have a planned strategy of how they can securely bring it down. However, he added that, there are times when these plans don’t materialize and all space agencies are expected to deal with such situations.
If the spacecraft operators are able to steer it, they can then pinpoint exactly when and where it will reenter the earth’s atmosphere. Based on some research done, Tiangong-1 is expected to break up during its distinctive reentry but some parts will survive this process and reach the Earth’s surface.
